Wired for exploring

56 days ago was my last dev log update for the Miner Game.
In those missing days, I drifted in several directions.

I joined a Game Jam, which sent me into a spiral of changes to my codebase. I ended up starting a point-and-click project and rewrote a lot of my code into utility functions, still hoping to eventually turn it all into a Flutter library.

Then I got carried away writing scripts for dithered lighting effects…
Then I started exploring how to fake 3D in JavaScript canvas (or really, any canvas)…
Did a few pixel art pieces…
Started a music track I never finished…

As exciting as all of this sounds,it’s bad news.

Maybe I’m sharing this because, to some degree, we all struggle with this.
I want to do so many things, but the truth is, I’m wired for exploration. And shifting from exploration to consolidation—actually finishing things—has been really challenging. Especially with kids at home and working half-asleep, waking up at 4 AM, hoping the toddlers don’t wake up too.

But I’m trying to do better.

I’m working on my habits, one by one. I’m optimizing. I’ve started asking for help when it comes to the mind and focus. And you know what? It’s possible. We can reset our brains,it takes effort, but it’s doable. And the way forward is individual, personal.

So… ideas will need to be postponed in order to bring to life the one that needs the most attention right now.
